Common questions
The sound stopped when I locked the screen
Shwssh is built to keep playing with the screen off and in the background. If it stops, check that Low Power Mode is off, and that a Focus or Screen Time schedule is not closing the app. The silent switch does not mute it.
Where are my own recordings?
Under Sounds › My Sounds. To make one, go to the Record tab and hold the microphone. Let go when you are finished and it will offer to keep it.
Nothing records when I hold the microphone
The first recording asks for microphone access. If it was declined, turn it back on in the iOS Settings app under Shwssh › Microphone. Very short holds are discarded rather than saved.
How do I delete a recording?
Swipe left on it in My Sounds. Built-in sounds cannot be deleted. Deleting a recording removes its audio file from your device as well.
Can I play more than one sound at once?
Yes, and that is the point of it. Tap as many as you like. Each keeps its own level, so you can set the rain under a lullaby rather than over it. There is a master volume on the player bar.
The sleep timer
It fades the mix down rather than cutting it off. While it is running you can add ten more minutes without getting up.
It is using more battery than I expected
The animated scene is the expensive part. Turn off Animate the scene in Settings and the pasture holds still. The app also steps itself down on its own when the phone has been left alone.
My recordings from the old version
They are carried across the first time the new version opens. If any are missing, get in touch before reinstalling, because reinstalling will not bring them back.
What does it need to run?
iOS 18 or later, on iPhone or iPad.
Reporting a problem
Send the email above and say what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. If the problem is battery life, Settings has a Send the battery log button that attaches a small text file of readings. Nothing leaves your device unless you tap it.
